PUP Taguig Ranks 6th in NCC 2010 - www.pup.edu.ph

The National Cheerleading Championship (NCC), the country's first and only cheerleading competition that employs international rules and regulations, held its championship tournament on March 6, 2010 where PUP ranked 6th among the 19 cheerleading squads held at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

PUP Taguig squad also bested ranks in the following categories: 4th in the partner-stunts division and 2nd in the all female competition. During the qualifying rounds for NCR, PUP Taguig ranked 5th.

President Dante G. Guevarra was grateful for the campus achievement. He was happy to know that PUPians excel both in the academics and sports. PUP Taguig was accompanied by their coach and assistant coach, Prof. Bernadette I. Canlas and Mr. Micahel Bulan, respectively. Their routine was choreographed by PUP alumnus Mr. Ronald Alayon. The team would like to extend its gratitude to Taguig Campus Director Amelita Laurente and Executive Director for Campuses Prof. Randolph Alcantara for their support.

Rounding up the top 10 were CCP (champion), University of Cordillera (2nd place), University of Perpetual Help System (3rd place), De La Salle University (4th place), Xavier University & Ateneo de Cagayan (5th place), PUP Taguig (6th place), Tarlac State University (7th place), Rizal Technological University (8th place), Ateneo de Manila University (9th place) and Jose Rizal University (10th place).

The National Cheerleading Championship was covered by ABS-CBN Sports block Studio 23.

NCC is affiliated with the governing body of Philippine Cheerleading Alliance (PCA). With NCC's vision to send a Philippine national team in the World Cheerleading Championships in the US, it endeavors to raise caliber cheerleaders and legitimize the sport in the country through an annual tournament. It also aims to assist educational institutions to bolster their physical education programs.
